Plainly, and before anything else: Hallstatt Tours may earn a commission when you book through a link on this site, at no extra cost to you.
What that means in practice
The tours listed here are sold through GetYourGuide and Viator. When you follow a link from one of these pages and go on to book, the platform pays us a share of its own commission. You pay the same fare either way; the price on the booking page is the operator's price, not a marked-up one.
What we are not
We are not a tour operator. We do not run any of these tours, employ any of these guides or drivers, or hold your booking. Your contract is with the operator, through the platform.
We have no connection with the Municipality of Hallstatt or its tourist office, the Dachstein Salzkammergut tourism board, Salzwelten, the lake boat companies, or any tour or transport company.
How tours get listed
Operators cannot pay for placement, position or a badge. A badge on a card is a measured claim: Top rated only on a tour rated 4.9 or higher, Best seller only on the tour with the most reviews, Best value only on the lowest fare one person can book. A platform's own badge is not shown.
Today Best seller sits on the Vienna day with the Skywalk option, which has the most reviews. Best value sits on the Vienna day with a guided walk and a Skywalk option, whose fare without the Skywalk is the lowest per person. Top rated sits on the e-bike ride from Gosau, rated 5.0; it never enters Hallstatt village, and its card says so.
The featured tours at the top of the homepage are three different kinds of day from two starting cities: a coach day from Albertinaplatz in Vienna, and the half day and the Sound of Music day from Mirabellplatz in Salzburg.
Some operators sell the same day more than once. 7 TRAVEL lists one $74 Vienna day three ways, and two other operators each list two near-identical Vienna days. None of these is shown side by side, and each listing is described from its own page.
Prices, ratings and how current they are
Prices, star ratings and review counts belong to the operators and were taken from their own listings on 26 September 2026. They move, and the figure at checkout is the one that counts. Every fare is quoted in US dollars because that is the currency the listings were captured in; nothing is converted at an exchange rate. A price is shown as the whole dollar below it, so $96.82 reads as $96.
Several listings showed a struck-through "was" price beside a lower one; only the price you would actually pay is shown. One private walk was on a 10% special offer when it was captured; the regular price is the one shown.
Some fares are per person and some per group, and each price says which. Where a from-price leaves out the Skywalk option, the price says that too.
Facts about the village itself, such as the salt mine's hours and prices, the funicular, the Bone House, the museum and the boats, come from the official pages of the operators of those sights, the tourism board and the municipality. Where a detail comes from a listing, such as a meeting point, an age limit or what the fare covers, it belongs to that tour.
What we deliberately do not publish
- A promise the listing does not keep. One private day's title promises a lakeside picnic, but its Includes list only snacks and its Excludes list lunch; we never say lunch is included. Another's overview mentions a guided tour of the village, but its Includes put the guide on the bus; we call that time your own. A breakfast stop is a stop, not a meal in the fare.
- A choice as a promise. The cruise-port day can include Hallstatt, Salzburg or the Eagle's Nest; Hallstatt is one choice, and the card says so.
- “Small group” or “skip the line”. No coach listing gives a cap, so none is called a small group, and the village has no ticket queue to skip.
- Out-of-date notices. Two listings still said the funicular was closed until summer 2026; it reopened on 29 August 2026, and we give the official date. Where listings estimate the boat or the Skywalk fare, we give the official prices instead.
- Figures no official source settles. A train journey time in minutes, how long the salt-mine tour lasts, a parking day rate, or a Dachstein cable-car price.
